MOAH ACQUIRES JOSH PATTERSON’S “BONES OF THE EARTH”
Bermudez Projects, Los Angeles is excited to announce that the Museum of Art and History (MOAH) in Lancaster has acquired Josh Patterson’s large photographic print, Bones of the Earth.
Originally exhibited in the artist’s solo exhibition, Big Quiet, Patterson says Bones of the Earth is a “tribute to the sea of silence that typifies the wild lands of the Mojave.”
The remarkable accomplishment of Patterson’s work is capturing not just the scale and beauty of the Mojave’s vastness, but the thing that Patterson himself is seeking there: quiet.
To bake big quiet into his photos, Patterson pulled back. Way back. Far enough to take himself out of the photos. Far enough to make you wonder where he’s transported and left you. Far – and high – enough that there are almost multiple horizons, each framing a world worthy of its own photo.
Patterson says, “My hope is that I have captured at least some small part of that silence and my love of it for you to experience with me.”
Bermudez Projects extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone on the MOAH team for helping make this acquisition possible. And, we are eternally grateful to the generosity of Paula and Buck Claborn for their unwavering support and commitment to ensuring this artwork is now part of the Museum of Art and History’s permanent collection.
