Bermudez Projects is pleased to present Forgotten, Josh Patterson’s third solo exhibition at the gallery.
In this latest series, Patterson comprises a collection of photographs documenting places that have fallen off historical record – a tram tower in Saline Valley; Death Valley petroglyphs; an old mining cabin; and more. As an artist and explorer, Patterson thrives on traversing the unknown, allowing himself to rediscover sites, organically.
“Over the years I’ve spent in California’s wilderness, I’ve had the privilege of stumbling across and [then] seeking out these lost gems,” explains Patterson. “On several occasions I’ve documented undiscovered ancient sites. The best preserved of them, whether abandoned mining cabins or prehistoric remnants lie in the more inaccessible regions and require cross country hikes, persistence and a healthy dose of luck.”
A healthy dose, indeed.
Patterson seems to have an ample supply of luck, which is evident throughout the dozen photographic prints on display. Lost. Hidden. Secret. Each image serves as a window to places – and times – in California’s wildlands that have been long forgotten.
