Extending beyond traditional visual culture, the exhibit includes other disciplines such as dance, literature, music, film, fashion, and performance.

Gronk’s Theater of Paint @ The Craft & Folk Art Museum

From his early days with the conceptual art collective, ACSO, to his most recent set productions with the likes of Peter Sellars, Gronk continues to create immersive, dynamic works of art. And, this exhibit takes his art of installation to a level of pure enjoyment. Gronk’s Theater of Paint invites visitors to actively participate in this exhibit by moving through the space and interacting with props.

MOLAA AT TWENTY: 1996-2016 @ The Museum of Latin American Art
Through January 1, 2017

Much has changed since MOLAA’s early days and this exhibit celebrates the museum’s evolution from a fledgling institution – founded by the late Dr. Robert Gumbiner – to a nationally recognized 21st century museum dedicated to Modern and Contemporary Latin American art. The museum main galleries display the breadth of its collection, including new artworks from its recent inclusion of Chicano/Latino artists based in Los Angeles.

The Grace Nicholson Building, Garden, and Galleries @ USC Pacific Asia Museum
Through June 26, 2016

Before becoming the Pasadena Museum of Art, followed by what is now the Pacific Asia Museum, this Chinese Imperial Palace inspired space was both home and workplace to its pioneering founder, Grace Nicholson. The museum features art and material from Asia and the Pacific Islands, as well as an intimate garden and pond. Due to planned seismic retrofitting, the building and museum will close its doors to the public beginning June 27, 2016. The planned re-opening is scheduled for May 2017.

Claire Falkenstein: Beyond Sculpture @ PMCA

One of the most experimental and productive artists of the 20th century, Claire Falkenstein continued to refine her artistic practice. From painting, printmaking, jewelry and glass works, she evolved to monumental public sculptures and fountains. This retrospective examines the development of Falkenstein’s artwork – both chronologically and geographically – through approximately 65 artworks spanning nearly 60 years.
